I graduated from the University of Durham in 1997 with a degree in Sociology and Social Policy. I stayed in Durham to complete my MA and then obtained my PHD from the University of Newcastle in 2002. I moved to Surrey in 2006.

Research
My research interests focus on the interrelationship between identity and social control which I have explored through a number of substantive areas, including: policing, identification and crime control; technology and surveillance; securitization and biometrics; gender and sexuality; and social class.

I am currently working on socio-legal issues around morality, law and sexuality.

Teaching
I currently convene and teach the following modules:

re:presenting difference (with Jo Moran-Ellis) (1st Year UG, Media Studies)
Crime, Gender and Sexuality (2nd Year UG, Criminology and Sociology)
Deviance and Social Control (Final Year UG, Sociology)
Law, Society and Social Control (MSc, Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Research).
